re evaluating water (2007) : geographical pricing proposal for Singapore

Geographical Pricing is a proposal to price water according to geographical distance from water supply plants. Cities used to be built around water sources. But with cheap energy, we have built our societies further away from our basic neccesities. This has resulted in a heavy dependence on energy to mine, treat and distribute our clean water. There are approximately more than 1 billion people without access to clean water. And with increasing oil prices, clean water is fast becoming a scarce commodity.

The project aims to provoke and open up discussion points about our conception that clean water is a basic entitlement to all in our modern society, and the energy dependency behind it. Is clean water an entitlement? or is it a priviledge.
